Nan Goldin and David Armstrong became close friends in the late 1960’s in Boston. According to Benjamin Weil, "A Double Life is a diary of their relationship that exposes the world in which they have lived since they first met in college. The photographs -either in black and white or color- document people they have encountered whom they relate to as their “family” and whom they might have lost in the course of time, making the whole project comparable to a road movie".
