J.D. 'Okhai Ojei

Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. 2000. First Edition. Hardcover with dustjacket. 160 Pages. Texts in French and English. Foreword by André Magnin. Book : VG+.

“J. D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere was born in Nigeria in 1930. In 1963 he set up his studio and spent the next thirty years working on his own photographic research, organized into themes. This publication covers the series Hair Style, which focuses on the art of African hairdos. J. D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere photographed them every day, in the street, at the office, and at parties; his models were shot from behind, sometimes in profile, very rarely face forward. His work is both objective and subjective, a mix of ethnographic vision and aesthetic project portrayed in black and white photographs that fix a fleeting beauty”. Brilliant.
